Domain knowledge for using OpenCitations bibliographic and citation tools effectively

OpenCitations

OpenCitations provides open bibliographic and citation data. Use it to fetch citations and references by DOI and to look up bibliographic metadata.

Data Model

  • Citations — works that cite a given DOI; scoped by DOI.
  • References — works cited by a given DOI; scoped by DOI.
  • Metadata — bibliographic info for a DOI.

Gotchas

  • DOI format: Use full DOI (e.g. 10.1038/nature12373); no URL prefix.
